My nephew Reiner and me
I was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana which is basically in the center of the United States. I have two sisters and one adorable nephew (in the photograph on the left he is showing me how to play a puzzle on an iPad). My Mom is one of my best friends; we try to Skype at least once a week to catch up on our latest news. My family and I moved every three years when I was growing up. I think all that moving to new towns across the United States prepared me to move to Vietnam.
Some of my hobbies include running, swimming, reading, and traveling.
Some of my hobbies include running, swimming, reading, and traveling.
- Running: I love to run! When I lived in the USA I competed in a lot of races. I even did an Ironman triathlon (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run)! Now that I live in Vietnam I don't have as much time to run anymore, but I am happy to get a few miles in everyday.
- Swimming: I was on swim teams all throughout elementary school and into high school. It was important to me to be a part of a team especially when I was a kid. Extra-curricular activities outside of school helped me to become a more confident young adult.
- Reading: I love to read everything from fiction, blogs, poetry, and nonfiction. My favorite author is Haruki Murakami. He is from Japan and he writes stories about parallel universes, mysteries, and autobiographical accounts. I also read a daily blog titled Grammar Girl. This blog is great for quick tips about some of the trickier aspects of English language conventions. Currently, I am reading a nonfiction book, The Story of English. It is about the evolution of the English language and how it spread from just a small part of the world to become an important language for many people around the globe.
- Traveling: I am so fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the world. This summer I was able to travel throughout Vietnam. Some of my favorite highlights were hiking in Sapa, visiting museums in Ho Chi Minh City, and going to a water puppet show in Hanoi. I plan on visiting Dalat very soon!
